WSET Level 1 Award in Wine

You can complete the course quite quickly, sometimes in 1 day, or in 4 weeks, with 3 hours study time per week. BUT, we have designed this course around different people's learning styles. So you can go faster or slower, it's all about you what works best for you.

If you booking the wine tasting kit, we will be running online tutorials each month, which you are welcome to join but they are not compulsory.

For Level 1 no prior wine knowledge is required.

All classes are delivered in English, therefore a good level of English is beneficial.

Accessibility - Online courses allow learners to access education from anywhere, making it easier for people with busy schedules, those living in remote areas, those who need to balance education with work and family responsibilities

Self Paced Learning - allowing learners to progress according to their own schedules, and their own learning styles. Especially appealing for adult learners and professionals.

Convenient - no need to block specific times in your calendar. Students can log in whenever they want, study the content and summaries of the topics, practice for the test, post comments and participate in online discussions.

Once your booking has been processed, you will receive access to the online course which provides many different resources to help you work through the syllabus.  You will also be sent the digital WSET studybook which accompanies the course.  You then work at your own pace, following the course modules and making use of the practice questions in each module.

The WSET studybook and the online course provides you with all the information you need to study in order to pass the exam at the end of the course. 

You will have full access to the materials for 12 months from the date you register. 

If you order the wine tasting kit you can join the optional online tasting tutorial run every month, but its not compulsory.

Once you feel ready to take the exam, get in touch with us to arrange a date and time.

For Levels 1 and 2, the examination will be completed online through a Remote Invigilation service – you will be given information on how this works once you have enrolled.

Please allow a minimum of 15 working days for us to arrange the exam.

Results are usually issued via email 3-4 weeks after sitting the exam, with digital certificates following shortly afterwards.

No. Taking the exam is entirely up to you.

No, you can go straight to WSET Level 2 if you can already name and distinguish the different types and styles of wines.

For example:

1 - Chablis a place, a white wine, a red wine, or a grape variety?

(2 of the above are correct)

2 - What aroma might you get from a wine that has been matured in an oak barrel? Apple, Raspberry, Vanilla or Damp Cardboard?

We will send you a list of “key wines” that you can purchase from your own wine supplier.
You can also opt to order a selection of sample wines. Each package contains the recommended samples for every qualification (except sparkling wines) and offers an affordable and easy way to taste a wide range of representative styles. 

No. If you have passed the same level previously, or a higher one, unfortunately you will not be able to sit the exam again to obtain a higher grade. You are welcome to attend the classes or buy the latest student materials to refresh your skills, but please get in touch with us first to discuss. Unfortunately, we are unable to partially refund the cost of any course once you have registered. The WSET will check their records to verify you, and charge for this.
